Do men need a face moisturizer?
What does this mystical moisturizer do? Is this just another marketing ploy to get us to buy more grooming products?
To be honest - I've asked myself this question a lot. And as I learn more about men's grooming, I'm learning what is essential and what isn't.
So, should you use a men's face moisturizer?
The answer is clear - yes, you do.
In this blog, we explain why a good face moisturizer for men is such an essential part of your daily routine.
Is applying moisturizer good for the face?
- It rehydrates your face when it's dry.
- It prevents your skin from drying out again by forming a protective barrier against outside elements like cold weather.
- It reduces the appearance of fine lines/wrinkles by filling in these "valleys" in your skin.
Those three reasons alone give you the answer to that question - but let's dive a little deeper...
Your skin consists of many layers.
The stratum corneum is the most outer layer, and it protects your body's internal structures from injury and bacteria.
Its purpose is similar to that of a car's paintwork. It protects what's underneath it.
But the stratum corneum can't do its job if it doesn't have sufficient moisture.
Your skin needs moisture to prevent bacteria growth, build new skin cells, and keep its elasticity. (Without water, your skin would rip or tear with every movement.)
Is it really necessary to moisturize your face?
You may ask - doesn't my skin moisturize itself naturally?
Your skin produces sebum oil, which it uses to reduce moisture loss from your skin's surface by evaporation.
But you put your face through a lot.
Think about it - you wash it two times a day (I hope), you shave, and unless you walk around naked, your face is likely the most exposed part of your body during the day.
In other words - this means that on top of the natural evaporation that occurs, your face is exposed to cold weather, pollution, wind, UV rays, and many other elements, which all help dry it out and damage its protective barrier.
But a moisturizer alone can't help you - so remember to stay hydrated and drink a lot of water!
Now you know what face moisturizers do, and all of the benefits they provide, the answer should be pretty clear.
Your face needs a helping hand.
A good, natural men's face moisturizer is essential to maintain healthy, hydrated skin and keep those wrinkles at bay.
